Class overview:

Richie Vios, award-winning plein air artist, will host a 3-day Classroom/ Pleinair workshop for intermediate to advanced level artists who want to learn the art of plein air (outdoor) painting. As a plein air artist, Richie shares how to be a successful plein air artist by simplifying the watercolor process into the essential elements, guiding each artist for a better understanding of the watercolor medium through live demonstrations, and creating a process at their skill level, pace, medium, and subject matter. Richie demonstrates how the four pillars of a good watercolor painting and an understanding of the Watercolor Consistency called “Watercolor Clock,”  lead to a more truthful work of art that is full of passion. Richie will help you develop your skills, painting visualization, and become the confident Pleinair or Studio  watercolor artist that you want to be.

Bio

Born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines, surrounded by the influence of an artistic family, Richie ventured into academia after earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1995, he became a university faculty member. In 2005, Richie sought fresh prospects and made the move to America, working as an architectural designer in Clearwater, Florida, for six years. Upon his return to the Philippines in 2010, he resumed his architectural practice with a vision to harmonize Western architectural principles with Southeast Asian aesthetics. During his architectural practice in the Philippines, Richie dedicated his spare time over the next seven years to honing his watercolor painting skills, a passion that now defines his artistic identity. Reuniting with his family in Victoria, Texas, in 2018, Richie embarked on a new chapter as a watercolor impressionist and Pleinair artist, reigniting his pursuit of the American dream. Presently residing in Austin, Texas, Richie actively participates in Pleinair events nationwide and leads watercolor workshops to share his expertise and inspire fellow artists.
