Bob Guelich realized he wanted to be an artist while patrolling the Aleutian Islands with the Coast Guard and witnessing the majestic wildlife he saw there.

He began painting, but soon turned to sculpture because he felt that working three-dimensionally better expressed his creativity and love for animals.

Guelich’s sculptures have been placed inĀ the Kansas City Zoo; the Fort Worth Botanic Garden; the Frederik Meijer GardenĀ and Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids Michigan; Benson Sculpture Park, Loveland, Colorado; Rice University; University of Notre Dame; the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum, Oradell, New Jersey; Doane College; and the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minnesota. Other monumental commissions include works for the San Antonio, Omaha, and Houston zoos.

Among the awards Mr. Guelich has received for his sculpture are the NSS Annual Exhibition Gold Medal (2000); NSS Annual Exhibition Silver Medal (2001); Medal of Excellence, Society of Animal Artists and the Silver Medal of Honor, Allied Artists of America.
