Two Angels
Michael Albrechtsen
Oil on Linen
8 x 10 inches

This is an oil painting of two brilliantly lit mountain goats, late in the glow of an afternoon day, grazing upwards on a golden hillside of rocks, grass, and pine trees a palette of orange, rose, olive, avocado, and rich yellow-greens. These colors are set against the grayed rocks of the red and blue violets of the contrasting shadows. They stand out in brilliant white against the dark fall colors of the landscape, creating the feeling of two lovely angels peacefully grazing in a dark world.

The small 8 x 10 size of this painting lends a feeling of intimacy to the overall composition as if the viewer is just outside the frame observing the animals unnoticed.

The long shadows, designed by Michael Albrechtsen, lend a calming feeling to the scene.

Michael was born in Bountiful Utah at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, Michael developed a strong interest and connection with the out-of-doors at an early age.

“I paint in oil because I like the rich colors and how forgiving it is,” he says. “I love the way the light affects things. The light changes throughout the day, changing its effect on objects. The time of year, the temperature, or the area of the country all play a part in the way the light changes. I try to take days off from painting and it just doesn’t work. Painting is a way for me to express my emotions for what I see around me. Whether or not I am able to sell anything is secondary. I would still have to paint.”
