“Spring Roundup” by Kim Hinnant

Every Spring, when the mesquite trees are returning to their full and verdant glory, this South Texas ranching family begins to gather cows for their annual Spring Roundup.  This is when young cattle are branded, bull calves are castrated, and everybody is vaccinated.  Roundup is not only vital for the success of this large ranch, but it also pays a beautiful tribute to the hardworking men and women of ranches past.  Days are long and work is hard, but the memories and experiences shared are priceless.  In our day, the moniker, Cowboy, has been diluted to mean little more than someone wearing a hat and boots.  The truth is, few individuals today could travel a true cowboy’s path for even half a day.

Born in Louisiana and raised in Texas, Kim Hinnant has been riding, training, and competing on horses all her life.  While studying Animal Science at Texas A&M University, she began doing day work on different ranches and fell hopelessly in love with the cowboy way of life.  Kim’s passion for the old west, the modern-day cowboy, and the horse is reflected in her award-winning, realistic style of painting.  “Western art is my passion.  I find myself drawn to a scene because of the way it makes me feel and it is always a challenge and a joy to be able to capture that on canvas and offer the viewer a glimpse into a way of life few ever experience
